About

Theme Insight tracks, with data, which themes moved in the Korean stock market, when, and how often. Rather than chasing the price of individual stocks, we follow the market theme by theme and record whether a move lasted a single day or several, and how long it took to come back.

The tables below are taken from posts we actually published. Each numbered column comes with a note on how to read it.

Daily Report — what moved in the last session

Every trading day we summarize the themes that were strong that day. At the top of each post are bars for theme strength and the leading stock’s last 20 sessions, followed by a summary table like this one.

Example · Daily report, Jul 30, 2026

#ThemeStatusAvg. changeUp/TotalLeader
1Construction (Small & Mid Cap)recurred after 20 days+8.9%10/10KUMHO Engineering & Construction
2Batteryrecurred after 20 days+7.7%10/10Daesung Hi-Tech
3Shipbuildingrecurred after 7 days+6.6%6/6HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering
4Cement & Ready-Mix Concreterecurred after 20 days+6.6%9/9SeoSan
  1. Status — read this before the average change. new means the theme made the strong list for the first time, running means the move is continuing, and recurred after 20 days means it came back after a quiet spell. The same +8% means something different for a theme that just started and one on its third straight day.
  2. Up/Total — whether the theme moved as a whole. 10/10 means every stock in the theme rose, which looks more like a sector-wide reaction; 3/10 points to news specific to a few stocks. Two themes with the same average change can be very different in nature.
  3. Leader — the stock that led the theme that day. It is marked again with ★ in the detailed table below.

Each theme then lists its stocks. ★ marks the leader, and the headlines, press names and links of that day’s related news follow the table.

Example · Jul 30, 2026 · Construction (Small & Mid Cap)

StockChangeCloseLeader
KUMHO Engineering & Construction+30.0%9,490★
Nam Hwa Construction Company+26.3%4,800
Ilsung Construction+8.5%1,295
Chinhung International+4.9%750
  1. Change — gains are shown in red and losses in blue, following Korean market convention. If only the top few stocks rise sharply and the rest barely move, it is closer to a stock-specific story than a move by the whole theme.
  2. Leader — the stock that led the theme that day gets a ★. When the same stock leads several themes, it sits where several moves overlap.

Weekly Wrap — what survived the week

Every Saturday we wrap up the week. Under the ranking table comes one representative headline from each top theme’s strongest day, followed by a theme × trading-day heatmap that shows on a grid how each theme moved day by day. An empty cell means the theme was not on the strong list that day.

Example · Weekly wrap, Jul 27 – 31, 2026

ThemeDays strongWeekly avg.Best dayLast statusLeader

Defense & War2d+13.7%2026-07-31 (+21.0%)runningRF Materials, Daesung Hi-Tech
  1. Days strong — over a week, this column says more than the percentage. A theme that spiked once and vanished is different from one that made the list three days in a row. In the table above, three robotics themes each held for three days side by side — that was the core move of the week.
  2. Best day — the strongest day of the week and its change. It shows where in the week the momentum was. Three strong days ending on a high suggest a move that is continuing; three days that peaked on the first day suggest one that is cooling.
  3. Last status — the status on the theme’s last strong day of the week. running is where you watch whether it carries over the weekend; recurred is a move returning after a gap.

Monthly Wrap — the theme map of a month

At the start of each month we wrap up the previous one. Besides the ranking table and heatmap we show the number of recurring themes. A high number means it was a month where existing themes rotated and reacted again, rather than one driven by entirely new moves.

Example · Monthly wrap, July 2026

ThemeDays strongMonthly avg.Best dayLeader
Shipbuilding Equipment11d+7.9%2026-07-31 (+15.2%)SK oceanplant

Semiconductor Majors (Fabrication)9d+6.7%2026-07-31 (+24.5%)SK hynix, Samsung Electronics
  1. Days strong — a month is where you look at cycles. In the table above, shipbuilding equipment held the longest at eleven days, yet its monthly average of +7.9% is lower than semiconductor equipment’s +13.1%. This is how themes that react steadily over time separate from those that spike briefly and hard.
  2. Best day — the strongest day of the month. When several themes peak on the same date, the whole market moved that day. In the table above, the semiconductor themes overlap on July 10 and July 31.
